Pedestal Base Liberty Enlightening World Statue

Design ToscanoSKU: NE130049B

Description

The purpose of the base for the Liberty statue by Bartholdi was to enhance the statue, not to overshadow it. The American designers succeeded in creating a consummate work of art that in itself is a master work of architectural design. Architect Richard Morris Hunt (1827-1895) succeeded in creating a majestic base in the Neoclassical style which augments the statue's style. The pedestal's construction began in October of 1883 and was finally completed in August of 1886, because of funding issues. On October 28, 1886, President Grover Cleveland oversaw the dedication of the Statue of Liberty and base in front of thousands of spectators. Our scaled replica base is cast in quality designer resin reinforced with fiberglass for strength, and hand-finished to authenticate the Neoclassical original's granite facing. Our Design Toscano-exclusive, high quality statuary plinth base has the look of a fine period antique and will stand alone with your statue or garden urn lifted to be admired from all sides.
